What is the first step in developing a theme or water park?

We usually recommend a feasibility study be commissioned with an experienced location based entertainment economist. A good report will tell you if demand exists in your marketplace and what an appropriate investment would be.

How long does it take to design and build a typical theme park?

The length of design and construction periods often depend on the complexity of the project, the site conditions, and the budget. Larger investments take longer to plan. Complicated sites take longer to plan and engineer. For investments over US$750 million, the minimum timeframe from design to opening day would be three years. For projects below that, the schedule can be reduced if the site is relatively flat.

Should we license a brand for our theme park?

Brands offer theme park developers a great way to increase the awareness and acceptance of their project by the public. Brands also offer revenue generating merchandise--which is important in recouping the cost of the park. Brands are also very particular in how they are presented, and can be difficult to deal with. It is best to deal with lawyers experienced in licensing intellectual property and to define what each party's responsibilities are, in what areas, and especially important to limit the scope of the Brand's authority to only specific areas where their properties are represented.

We want to build the world's biggest theme park!!

Who doesn't? But to be the world's biggest theme park will require more than US$6.5 billion, 963 acres (390 hectares) of land, freeway and transit access, 10,000 employees, and operations expertise. Are you ready for all of that? If so, just transfer a 1% downpayment and we're ready to talk!

What is your firm's history?

The firm was originally founded by Kevin Barbee in April, 2004, as "KB Creative Advisors" (KBCA), located in Los Angeles on Wilshire Boulevard's "Miracle Mile." In January, 2009, a branch office was created, "KB Creative Advisors Singapore" (KBCAsg) to support the on-site construction and art direction for Universal Studios Singapore, located in a quaint shophouse in Chinatown. In August, 2013, KBCAsg's team merged with Singapore's IRMS (International Resort Management Services) to design Genting World Malaysia. Most recently, in January, 2019, to support the market's intense focus on 'experiences,' KB Creative Advisors was re-named "KBXD," which stands for Kevin Barbee Experience Design, and re-located to New York City.
